Anita Saarkessian

Anita Sarkeesian is a Canadian-American feminist media critic as well as a public speechwriter. Feminist Frequency is a site that hosts videos and posts commentary on the representation of women in pop media. Anita Sarkeesian is an award-winning Canadian-American feminist media critic as well as blogger. She is the author and executive director of Feminist Frequency a non-profit educational site that examines the representation of women's roles in popular cultural narratives. Destroying stereotypes about women are her main focus. In addition, she is keen to draw attention to concerns like the issue of targeting and bullying of women on the internet. Sarkeesian holds a Masters in political and social thinking at York University. As a public speaker, she is popular and has been a speaker at TEDxWomen XOXO and United Nations Broadband Working Group. From an early age Sarkeesian was interested in the issues surrounding gender identity and feminist thought. As a student, in 2009, she launched her Feminist Frequency website. She was launching a series of videos on the web that looked at gender representations in video games at the time she came under the sway of harassment online. But the assault did not deter her instead it strengthened her determination as a feminist critic of media. Her notable contributions to the field of feminists were recognized by a variety of awards. Anita Sarkeesian is an award awarded media critic, and director of Feminist Frequency an educational non-profit focused on the representations of women in pop-culture storylines.
